The short-listing process is currently under way to select the candidates for the European Election. The selection campaign for the South East Regional list (which includes both South Central and South East Lib Dem Regions) runs from 28 August to 6 November.
As of August 2007, the Liberal Democrats have selected the following people to be Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs) for South Central constituencies at the next General Election on the new constituency boundaries that will be in force for that election.
13th August is the deadline for submission of Policy and Business Motions or South Central Conference Autumn 2007. Motions should be sent to Regional Office, preferably by e-mail to southcentralld@btconnect.com and provide the name of the proposer of the motion (Local Party, 2 Regional Conference Reps, Committee of the Executive, Council Group etc.), the title of the motion, the name, e-mail and tel. no. of the mover and seconder of the motion.
Liberal Democrat Winchester MP Mark Oaten has has written in today's Independent newspaper about the prison system. Mark slams the state of the current system and its huge overcrowding issues, and calls for "the courage to sweep away prison and replace it with a genuinely radical, innovative alternative".
