Cllr Michael Headley is pushing the Borough Council to bring in new planning rules for developers. New rules for larger developments would mean that rubbish from demolition and building works would have to be dealt with in an environmentally friendly way, including re-use where possible. It would also require new houses to have recycling facilities provided and bottle and recycling banks built on larger developments.

The new leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Menzies Campbell has today promoted local MP Tim Farron to become his first Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS). Tim Farron has today vowed to keep up the pressure on the Prime Minister after the Prime Minister failed to answer the question Tim put to him during Prime Ministers Questions. Tim asked the Prime Minister to act urgently to stop shared ownership properties from being entirely bought out, a process which is eroding the stock of affordable houses in the South Lakes.
