Talking Politics by Councillor David Clayton.

As someone who teaches politics I am acutely aware of the rough and tumble of the political world. I don't mind being targeted, but I draw the line at my children. Yes, my children are educated outside of the Borough but that is more out of convenience than anything as I teach in the same school. Of course I can't teach in Rochdale as it would bar me from standing for office. I find Councillor Brett to be the worst type of 'politician' I have ever had the misfortune of meeting.

Former Middleton Councillor switches allegiance to the Lib Dems

Rochdale Liberal Democrat Council Leader Alan Taylor has spoken of his delight after a long-serving former Labour Councillor, Terry Smith, joined the Liberal Democrats. Ex-Councillor Terry Smith will be standing in his former council seat of West Middleton for the Lib Dems in May. Council Leader Alan Taylor said "Terry Smith has worked hard for many years and given a lot to West Middleton. Unfortunately the Labour party didn't treat him well at all. Letter on Gun Crime by Councillor Peter Evans

We have seen to huge rise in gun crime across the UK. It is around ten years since The Government attacked gun clubs and declared that a central national register would be compiled for guns. Looking at the mural of the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215 by King John in the large hall of our town hall, I have reflected on the fact that it took seven and a half years using quill and donkey to complete a national census of Britain. Compare this to the fact that after 10 years a central register for guns has still not been done! It suggests to me that the attack on gun clubs was another deliberate ruse by our government wanting to sounding tough: they knew full well that it would have no impact whatsoever on the number of guns acquired by criminals - a fact that has been proved emphatically since then.
