LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT INCOMPETENCE SHOCKING

Paul Holmes MP for Chesterfield today criticised the government after two computer discs holding the personal details of all families in the UK with a child under 16 have gone missing (25 million people). This could affect over 35,000 adults and children in Chesterfield alone.

Brown gives environment speech following Climate Change report from the UN

In a speech today, Gordon Brown said there will be a "green hotline" to advise people on what they can do to cut their impact on the environment. Mr Brown also said the UK's emission target of a 60% cut by 2050 could be increased to 80%, and that he would also seek the end of one-use plastic bags. On Saturday a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change described how a warming world would threaten billions of people with thirst and malnutrition, endanger more than half of wildlife species with extinction and initiate a melting of the Greenland ice cap that could raise global sea levels by more than 22ft. The IPCC's report was based on 29,000 observations taken around the world.

"Animal disease levy must be scrapped" - Farron

Local MP Tim Farron has today expressed his dismay at the news that the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is considering imposing a levy on farmers to meet more of the costs incurred by major disease outbreaks. The amount that each farm pays will be based on the size of each farm and its operation. The news comes as DEFRA announced it was to make £300m of emergency cuts from its annual budget.
