Thieves steal disabled boy's DVD

A mother has condemned thieves who stole a DVD player belonging to her blind and disabled four-year-old son from the family's car. "I don't think they have any morals at all," said Judith Broomfield, of Aylesford, Kent, mother of Jamie Bell.

People with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may be less sensitive to pain than others who don't have the condition, say Dutch scientists. PTSD patients report panic attacks, flashbacks, anxiety and depression following a traumatic event.

Well, what a year it has been on the Council. This time last year the Liberal Democrats made a number of promises to YOU, the Council Tax Payer and we have kept each and every one of them. This includes keeping your Council Tax as low as possible - we have certainly achieved that with a rise just 4%, the lowest for a decade. We have also shown our faith in localised decision making and devolved as much power as possible to the Heywood, Middleton, Pennines and Rochdale Townships. These Townships now have more power than the old Town Councils that Labour abolished in 1974.

The power of 100 schoolchildren!

Rochdale Council are set to put power in the hands of schoolchildren, if Liberal Democrat proposals are carried through after the May Elections. Currently, any 2 Councillors can "call-in" any decision that the Council's Cabinet makes, this then has to be referred back to the relevant Council Committee for further scrutiny. If the Lib Dems retain power on the Borough's Council from May, 100 people including schoolchildren can come together to force the Council to think again about any decisions they have made that affects them.
