Get us out of Iraq - Campbell tells Brown

The Liberal Democrat leader, Sir Menzies Campbell, has written to Gordon Brown saying: "The current level of British casualties is unacceptable. What is being achieved by the continuing British presence? Our troops are severely restricted in what they can do and they are subject to unreasonable risks. There is now a clear recognition that the objectives of their mission cannot be achieved ... Is it the case that our continuing presence in Iraq is now only to show solidarity with the United States? Were it so, could it be justified against the level of our casualties? It is time to set a framework for the complete withdrawal of all our forces."

Rowen encouragement for Citizen Card

Paul Rowen MP is encouraging the young people of Rochdale to sign up for a Citizen Card. The card, backed throughout the licensed trade is used as a legitimate 'Proof of Age' across the country. Dozens of teenagers throughout the Rochdale area have followed Mr Rowen's lead and have started to apply for Citizen Cards, credit-card size ID cards that allow them to prove their age.

Cllr David Kendall, Leader of the Lib Dem group on Brentwood Borough Council, has reacted angrily to the shock news that Brentwood is going to merge with Essex County Council and be run jointly by the County's Chief Executive Joanna Killion.

Campbell backs military demands for Army to leave Iraq

The Independent on Sunday has reported that senior military commanders have advised the government to withdraw troops from south-east Iraq without further delay. Commanders have said that Britain can achieve "nothing more" in Basra, which has seen a sharp rise in insurgent attacks over the past year.

A consultation event will be held in the main Pavilion on Tuesday 4th September (5pm - 7pm) at which your ward councillors and council officers will be present to listen to views of teenage users of the park.

Fuller Joins Calls For Replacement of Barrel Barrier

Lib Dem Folkestone Town Councillor Gary Fuller has joined calls for the replacement of the oil drum barrier across Rendezvous Street in the town centre. Cllr Fuller who represents Harvey Central Ward, which covers the town centre area, has had a number of complaints about the barrier, which he described as an eyesore.
