Deadline for submission of Policy and Business Motions for South Central Conference Autumn 2007

13th August is the deadline for submission of Policy and Business Motions or South Central Conference Autumn 2007. Motions should be sent to Regional Office, preferably by e-mail to southcentralld@btconnect.com and provide the name of the proposer of the motion (Local Party, 2 Regional Conference Reps, Committee of the Executive, Council Group etc.), the title of the motion, the name, e-mail and tel. no. of the mover and seconder of the motion.

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has hit back over a national newspaper's claims that Rochdale 'wasn't the birthplace of the Co-operative Movement'. The headline in Monday's Guardian read: "Strike Rochdale from the record books. The Co-op began in Scotland."

Rowen appointed Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Disability

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has been appointed the Lib Dem National Spokesperson for Disability Issues. Mr Rowen said: "I am happy to have been given this key position in the party on such a serious issue. For far too long some of the major obstacles faced by disabled people have been ignored. I will be championing issues involving the disabled and their carers. My main aim will be examing legislation to make sure that disabled people have a voice. I will make sure that disabled people receive full equality so that they can fully participate in UK society."
