Dundee LibDem Councillors Helen Dick and Fraser Macpherson are opposing Labour plans for ID cards. A report by the London School of Economics prices the ID card system as costing up to £18 billion - an astounding £300 for every person in the country.

The amount of cars left abandoned in Britain would be enough to stretch from London to Berlin if laid end-to-end. So says Chelmsford's Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman Stephen Robinson, quoting official figures. He commented, "This follows from the government's decision in June 2003 that the last owner of the vehicle would continue to have responsibility for its disposal, rather than the manufacturer, as is standard practice throughout the EU."
In an unprecedented step, Woking LibDem and Labour Councillors have joined forces to insist that the Borough Council does all it can to prevent electoral fraud.
The Liberal Democrats have launched their "G8 Communiqué: Priorities for Action", warning the leaders of the world's eight richest nations against limiting the Gleneagles Summit to "excuses for inaction and carefully honed presentations of warm words and sympathy". Also today, Gordon Brown has told Live8 campaigners that it may not be possible to secure all the demands made by the Make Poverty History campaign. The comments reflect concerns that the government has set its G8 presidency ambitions too high, at the risk of letting down lobby groups.
Kent Police Authority and Shepway Council are holding a public meeting at Saltwood Village Hall, The Green, Saltwood, Hythe on Thursday 14 July at 7.30pm. The meeting is designed to give local people from Hythe and Saltwood the opportunity to express their views on crime and disorder and discuss how the area is policed. Police officers will be attending, along with other community representatives.
