"Gordon should tell supermarkets to play fair!" - Farron

Local MP Tim Farron is urging Prime Minister Gordon Brown to force the buyers for multinational supermarkets to pay a fair price for meat in light of the current concerns over foot and mouth. As it stands, farmers are permitted to take their animals to slaughter, but are now being forced to accept a price well below what they would normally accept because they are not permitted to return with the animals.

Open Championship Golf Tournament to return to Kent in 2011

The Royal and Ancient has confirmed Royal St George's in Sandwich, Kent as the venue for the 2011 Open Championship - one of Golf's most prestigious competitions. The last time the Open was held at Royal St George's in 2003, when the tournament was won by American Ben Curtis, proved to be a major boost to local tourism and hotels across Kent including Folkestone & Hythe.

Lib Dems claim £100,000 of Labour hypocrisy

Research by Rochdale Liberal Democrats has revealed that nearly £100,000 of local Council Tax payers money was spent on outside consultants by Labour in Rochdale between January 2001 and September 2002. The cash was spent on research carried out by Vision 21, a Director of the company is Labour's Parliamentary Candidate, Simon Danczuk. Labour controlled the council at the time with 31 Councillors and were led by former Councillor Peter Roberts, with Councillor Allen Brett (Mr Danczuk's Agent) as Deputy Leader.

Decision Day Approaches for Jobs in Chesterfield

Chesterfield MP, Paul Holmes MP spent today (Tuesday 25th September) visiting the HMRC offices at Markham House and Dents Chamber. These offices have been provisionally selected by the Government for closure. It is expected that the final decision will be announced sometime between the 8th and the18th October.
