St. Matthew's Boost
Out of £40,000 provided by the City Council in its budget for improvement to Community Safety for the city, local Lib Dem Councillors secured £20,000 to be used in St. Matthew's Estate, which has been identified as one of the most deprived areas in Leicester.

Labour accuse Lib Dems of producing "Thug's Charter" but Labour Home Secretary praises Lib Dem action on anti-social behaviour
The local Labour Party has accused the Lib Dems of being soft on crime and producing a "Thugs Charter". Blackburn with Darwen Liberal Democrats hit back saying that the accusations were wrong and in fact Labour had failed to back a Lib Dem initiative to increase sentences for carrying knives.

Dundee LibDem Finance Convener pleased at highlighting of Tobacco Issue
Cllr Fraser Macpherson, Dundee's LibDem Finance Convener, today (Friday 14th April) said he was pleased that the Herald newspaper had highlighted his - and Dundee City Council's - unease at investment by local authority pension schemes in the multi-million pound tobacco industry.

Liberal Democrats Condemn Tory Staff Cuts
Months of debate came to a head today when Surrey County Council voted on the Business Delivery Review (BDR) - with the Liberal Democrat group rejecting the proposals sanctioned by the Tory-run Executive to cut staff numbers. Staff members and representatives of their trade unions listened in the public gallery and the adjoining Ashcombe Suite as Liberal Democrats fought against the proposals, which included a reduction of 561 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) jobs. A recorded vote saw 56 in favour of BDR, with 14 against and two abstentions.
