Charles Kennedy MP, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, responding to the calling of the General Election today pledged to fight the campaign based on real solutions to the real problems people face everyday. He promised to address people's hopes, not play on their fears, and to be the positive force for good in the election. Mr Kennedy said: "More and more people are looking to the Liberal Democrats to provide a real alternative to Labour and the Conservatives. And that's exactly what we're determined to do in this campaign."
Leading Liberal Democrat Campaigner and one of Rochdale's European Members of Parliament of the for Fair Trade in Europe Sajjad Karim MEP visited ASDA in Rochdale on Saturday to congratulate them on their contribution to helping Rochdale in their fight for Fair Trade. Saj was joined by Leader of Rochdale Council - Cllr. Paul Rowen and Manager of ADSA - Colin Heslop.

The battle for places on the new 80-seat County Council goes into top gear as nominations close later this week. This is expected to be the last set of councillors to hold their meetings at the historic County Hall in Kingston upon Thames, which is nowadays outside the administrative county of Surrey. The new building in Woking is intended to come into use before the end of 2007.
