Wolverhampton Council have approved a Council Tax increase of 4.5%. The Liberal Democrats again called for Council Tax to be scrapped and replaced with a fair form of taxation - A Local Income Tax.
Andrew George M.P., The Liberal Democrat Shadow Fisheries Minister and Mike Treleaven, Totnes Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate will be meeting Rick Smith, Chairman of Brixham Trawler Agents to discuss the current state of the fishing industry in Brixham. This replaces the meeting scheduled for 28th. February that Mr. George had to postpone due to urgent Parliamentary business.
Totnes Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Mike Treleaven will be travelling to Harrogate this weekend for the Lib Dem Spring Conference, probably the last conference before the next General Election. Delegates will be debating issues of great relevance to Totnes, particularly relating to affordable and sustainable housing, council tax, post office closures, improving life for the elderly and reducing crime. Commenting on the plans for a single equality commission (The Commission for Equality and Human Rights - CEHR) detailed in the Equality Bill which was published today, Liberal Democrat Shadow Trade and Industry Secretary, Malcolm Bruce MP said: "The establishment of the CEHR is a significant and very welcome step forward towards eradicating discrimination in our society.
