Colin Ross, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Wolverhampton South West in the recent election has demanded to know what is going on at New Cross Hospital. This follows the latest figures showing New Cross has had the second highest increase in MRSA cases in the country.

Liberal Democrats challenge Clarke in EU Terrorism debate

The Home Secretary, Charles Clarke, today sought EU support for new anti-terrorism laws. He hopes to persuade the European parliament to re-examine the way in which the European Convention on Human Rights has been interpreted, saying the interpretation needed to change in order to take into account the al-Qa'eda threat. During the debate the Home Secretary attacked Lib Dem MEP Sajjad Karim, calling him "particularly ignorant and ill-informed". Mr Karim hit back, saying, "Is it uninformed to say that undue restrictions on the liberty of our citizens may assist the very extremists we seek to destroy? Is it ignorant to say that to combat the terrorist threat we need the help of Muslim communities?"

Recycling service set to expand

Epping Forest residents will soon be able to recycle plastic bottles alongside their paper. The clear sack paper and can recycling service will be expanded to cover plastic bottles too. And the district's many gardeners will get a green waste service all year round.

West Midlands Liberal Democrat MEP gains victory for bare chested builders

MEPs today backed a compromise negotiated by Liberal Democrat MEP and shadow rapporteur for the Optical Radiation Directive Liz Lynne to allow member states to decide whether to introduce the anti-sun directive. The decision on whether Bare-chested builders and other outdoor workers will have to cover up has been left to national governments after a vote today in the European Parliament.

Broomfield Parade Post Office extension "considered" - Charman

Lib Dem Cllr. Peter Charman has announced that Tesco is considering a further extension to keep the Post Office on Broomfield Parade open while negotiations with the Post Office continue. He went on, "I'm also delighted that, after we put pressure on it, the Post Office has agreed to waive the fee of over £10,000 for a new Postmaster".

Police appeal for information on missing Lydd woman

Kent Police are concerned about the welfare of a woman who did not return her home in Lydd on the evening of Tuesday 6 September. Tanya Smith was last seen leaving the life skills centre in Cobbs Mews, Christchurch Road, Folkestone at 3.30pm. Tanya is 30 years old but has a mental age of eleven.
