First Great Western "Not Fit For Purpose"

Cornish Liberal Democrat MPs participated today (24th January) in a debate on the First Great Western's dire performance. During the debate it became clear that problems exist in every area of its franchise and with every aspect of its service. All the MPs indicated that they had received huge numbers of complaints from the travelling public, covering the inadequate and perverse timetable, the collapse in reliability and productivity, enormous fare increases and the declining standard of rolling stock. This culminated in the recent action to withdraw carriages from Cornwall to address chaos in Bristol leaving Cornish travellers with only a bus service.

Liberal Democrat Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, David Laws MP and Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Women and Equality, Lorely Burt MP, have secured concessions from the Government for better pensions for voluntary carers in a debate in the House of Commons this week.

Following research conducted by the 'Tonight with Trevor McDonald' show that showed that millions of householders could be in line for council tax paybacks worth thousands the Liberal Democrats have re-iterated their opposition to this unfair tax.

Police Station Closure a disgrace says Heywood Councillor!

Heywood Councillor Peter Rush has condemned the closure of Heywood Police Station, after it was closed ALL DAY on Monday (22.01.07) Councillor Rush was visiting on behalf of a Constituent and was shocked when he read a typed notice on the door stating, "The Police Station is closed today. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you have any problems please use the outside telephone." Peter is furious after leading a campaign for longer opening hours at the new Station on Adelaide Street. The station is currently 'open' Monday-Saturday from 9am till 5pm.
