The estimated 1355 people with dementia and the thousands who care for them in Westmorland and Lonsdale have won the support of Tim Farron, the MP for the area and Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia campaigning to make their condition a national priority.
Cornwall's five Liberal Democrat MPs this evening (Tuesday) backed Cornwall County Council's vote to continue with Cornwall's bid to replace both the County and District Councils with a single elected body as "the right choice for Cornwall".

NHS trusts in England are struggling to meet key hygiene standards, according to data submitted to the NHS watchdog. A quarter of the trusts report they are not complying with one of the three core standards relating to the hygiene code. 14% of trusts said they had failed to meet targets on reducing infection, up from 7% last year. In total there are 24 core NHS standards, covering everything from clinical effectiveness to governance. The Healthcare Commission said 40% of trusts were meeting all of these core standards.
