Research reveals prejudice against people disclosing impairments

The risks of disclosing unseen disabilities and health conditions in the teaching, nursing and social work professions are compounded by the stigma attached to them, according to the Disability Rights Commission (DRC). In a new report* commissioned by the DRC and published today, a supportive workplace or training environment was found to be key in encouraging disclosure among employees and those training within the three professions. Yet participants in the study said that major shifts in attitudes and behaviour were needed in the workplace to overcome their fears about disclosure.

Government unveils draft Climate Change Bill

The Government has today unveiled its draft Climate Change Bill, which plans to set a "legally binding" target to cut carbon emissions by 60% by 2050. It also calls for investment in low-carbon fuels and technologies, "carbon budgets" to be set every five years and for ministers to give annual progress reports on cutting emissions. However it rejects proposals for annual targets to be set. The full Climate Change Bill is to be published in the autumn.

Individuals affected will not need reminding that the situation gets worse with each spell of prolonged rain. We need action from Severn Trent and the other authorities as it is intolerable for householders to be afraid every time we have a storm.

Irresponsible driving on Coventry Road

We continue to urge a reduction of the 40mph limit and for more enforcement of the existing limits. We have to stop those who have no regard for the safety of themselves or others. Please let us know if you are interested in taking part in campaigning on this problem.
