Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Wednesday 25th October) lent their support to Friends' Week 2006, which aims to recruit more volunteer friends and boost fundraising initiatives already in place at a local level.
Liberal Democrat Councillors in Scarborough will be launching the party's new green tax policies on Saturday 28th October as part of the Liberal Democrats National 'Green Tax Switch Week'.
Rochdale Borough Council's Environment Boss - Lib Dem Councillor Wera Hobhouse has ruled out microchips in wheelie bins in the Rochdale Borough. Following a question from Castleton Councillor Ted Flynn Wera said, "I can reassure the people of this Borough that we haven't introduced chips to our wheelie bins and there are no plans to do so in the future unless Government legislation changes which would force the Authority to do so."
The day was the 1st April 1974 - the day that Heywood lost much of its power to Rochdale. The day that the old Heywood Town Council was finally dissolved and Rochdale took over the running of the Town. Many Heywood Residents remember this day with regret. The last sign of Municipal power was knocked down in the Mid-Eighties, when the old Heywood Municipal Buildings on Longford Street was demolished. The Heywood Coat of Arms that used to sit on top of the Municipal Buildings is now mounted in the wall on the corner of Longford Street and Bamford Road.
Cllr Wera Hobhouse, Rochdale Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability has held an urgent meeting with Leading Council Officers - seeking assurances that in future she will be consulted fully on issues affecting residents of the Rochdale Borough. Wera was speaking after finding out too late about the removal of rubble from the former Turner and Newell Asbestos Site in Rochdale. The Rubble will be transported through Heywood from the former Turners Brother's site to the Virador Landfill at Bury.
