Bedford Borough Lib Dems have launched their imaginative proposals for revitalising Bedford's Town Centre. Councillor Rosemary Bootiman said "We have put forward our ideas and we now want to know what other people think."
Bedford Lib Dems are campaigning to make Bedford's stations safer. The Government has admitted that our stations haven't yet been included in a crime prevention scheme. Only 110 out of 2,500 UK stations have been accredited under the Secure Stations scheme. The standard covers staff training, Help Points, CCTV, Lighting and information. Lib Dem Councillor Judith Cunningham said "The Government must stop dragging its feet on secure stations. We want to see Bedford's stations reach the standard for the benefit of all rail users."
In his closing speech to this year's party conference in Bournemouth, Liberal Democrat Leader Rt Hon Charles Kennedy MP said:
