MPs Challenge OFWAT Chief to Visit Cornwall

Following a meeting at the House of Commons Liberal Democrat MPs challenged the Chief Executive of OFWAT to come to Cornwall and explain how South West Water were permitted to increase bills by 17 percent. Ms Regina Finn the newly appointed Chief Executive accepted the invitation from Colin Breed MP and Julia Goldsworthy MP and it is hoped that this invitation will be fulfilled in the next few months.

Just one Wolverhampton MP opposed Trident

Congratulations to Wolverhampton North East MP, Ken Purchase, who twice voted against his own Labour Government's plans to replace the Trident submarines. First Mr Purchase was one 95 Labour MPs who joined the Liberal Democrats and voted for an amendment saying the case for renewing the UK's Trident nuclear submarine system "is not yet proven" and that a decision should be delayed. When this amendment was lost he again joined the Liberal Democrats and voted against the government's motion to proceed with the renewal of Trident.

Play worry over autistic children

Parents of autistic children claim the youngsters have missed out on use of a school playground because there have not been enough supervision staff. They said the roll at Caithness Early Years Autism Centre (CEYAC) has increased, but staff numbers have not changed to keep pace with this. Highland Council said the situation at CEYAC was under review.

Disabled woman gets £8.5m payout

A woman in need of 24-hour care since being knocked down while using a pedestrian crossing has been awarded £8.5m compensation. Leanne Evans, 22, of Erdington, Birmingham, was 13 when she suffered a serious brain injury as a result of being struck by the car. She now relies on a wheelchair, has severe memory trouble and needs eight carers to look after her.
